We love a fresh start, don’t we? The first days of a new year seem so hopeful, we feel a subtle shift, a different energy, somehow it feels possible that things will just be… different.
Will it? Maybe not, if you live it the same as you did last year, though that’s not a bad thing at times – like if you had a cracking year! Do you feel like you need a change this time round though?
Setting an intention for the year, instead of a list of “to do” goals can be infinitely more uplifting. I haven’t liked or set new year resolutions for ages, it just felt like a drag. But I love having a meaningful feeling or 3 to keep me focused, to come back to when I feel a bit lost.
This year, my words will be my filter – when I think about doing something, I’ll run it through the words – does it fit? Does it embody those feelings? Is there a different choice I could make that does?
Do you have a guiding theme for this year, a word or words that will drive your energy and your decisions?
Mine is: AUTHENTIC.
There’ll be more words to support that, I haven’t quite decided yet, but a few other words that will help to focus my intentions. Something like radiance, passion, magnetism, connection. Fly. Something burning, soaring, something warrior-like that makes me sit up and pay attention. I want to light a fire, and I want to radiate that out into the world.
Last year I focused on FLOW. At the time I really needed some ease, some soothing, a calming, gentle word. Earthy, peaceful, soft.
Right now, I want FIRE. Less internal contemplation and shifting, more action and stepping out of the safety of my inner world. Opening, reaching out, growing.
I just did Susannah Conway’s freebie “Find Your Word 2016” to help me decide, though funnily enough, AUTHENTIC came to me in the shower before I’d even started the exercises. Check it out if you need some help working out yours, it’s only 5 days and there are some great questions to help you unearth your 2016 gems.
